growing on heavy, somewhat moist soil, in full sun or light/partial shade, best
on a sheltered site, not exposed to strong winds. Shoots emerge green, turning
into black in the same year, occasionally with a narrow green stripe. A feature
bamboo, solitary or in a group, suitable also for small gardens. Culms used for
furniture-making, interior decor, and light-weight construction.
